I think AI has made English skills more valuable & that studying the art of literature in a world of AI because AI allows us to ask direct questions about a topic. For example if you are doing a project on the Famous Five (Canadian feminist group) and you wanted to know about a specific detail about one of the 5 then AI can help you with your research and find what you are looking for. ChatGPT can make finding research a more simple less time consuming process because you can ask direct questions and you will receive a very detailed answer. For example in the article they mention how a student asked AI to write about the American revolution and they received a very textbook response, which is great for students who are doing research. Also if you do not understand a part in the information, you can ask AI to further explain that one specific part.
I believe that Shylock is genuinely a good person. Shylock had some rough experiences throughout his life time because he was Jewish and not Christian like the rest of the people. Although, Shylock is portrayed as a villain in the Merchant of Venice, he only wants Antonio's flesh because he wanted to take revenge for all the years he was mistreated. When Antonio was unable to repay his dept to Shylock, their bond meant that Antonio had to give Shylock a pound of his flesh. However, when Shylock and Antonio argued their reasoning in front of the Duke of Venice. Shylock was punished for asking for Antonio's flesh by taking half of his possessions and wealth. I believe this is unfair to Shylock as both Antonio and Shylock had agreed to the bond and Antonio should have been punished for not being able to return Shylock's loan. Antonio was not punished because he was a Christian man. I believe that Shylock is a good person over all but he was passionate about his faith and he did not want to discriminated against, therefore he thought that seeking revenge through Antonio would give him a sense of happiness by hurting a Christian man.
In our society today I believe that black people are marginalized. I believe that black people are marginalized because people assume that black people are up to no good because of their appearance. For example a black child is more likely to be targeted for stealing in comparison to a white child. I feel that this group faces discrimination because in the workplace black people are often overlooked and others have a higher chance at receiving the occupation in comparison to black people. Another example is in schools, in many cases some teachers do not expect students to do well in school because of their race. The dominating group in our society today is white people. In many cases involving white people and black people, the white person has more privileges, keeping them at an advantage. In a situation involving both white and black people committing a crime, the white person may have a less harsh punishment in comparison to the black person.
In todays world we use many forms of visual communication to tell stories. Text is used to explain pictures or to conversate with people. I believe that visual communication is a very effective way of communication because you can provide a visual along with a story for the audience to gain a better understanding. Visuals are a great way to express emotions because you can set the mood using the location or lighting of the visual. The emotions expressed in the visual can be used to help portray the storyline in order for the audience to gain a better understanding of what the visual is trying to express. Some disadvantages to visual communication is that you cannot argue or persuade people as well through only visuals because the image may not be as influential. A disadvantage of traditional text is that you have to image what the author is trying to explain and you do not have a visual for you to understand what the author is writing about. In conclusion, I believe that both visual communication and traditional text both have their own advantages and disadvantages.
It was wrong for the artist to not help the girl just for a picture. This picture could have costed the girl, her life and the photographer could have helped her out. I believe that photographers are responsible for capturing a story but I also believe that there is more than one way to tell a story. This means that lives may not have to be at stake in order to capture one image. This photographer showed that his picture was more valuable than the little girls life. I know photographers are not supposed to interfere with the image but the photographer could have taken a picture of someone rescuing the little girl or they would have taken a different picture like I mentioned before. I wonder if the photographer cared about whether the vulture would take the girl or not. What if the vulture had picked her up and started to fly away with her? I think that he should have helped the girl, no matter the circumstance because it could have been a life or death situation for her. These are my reasons why I think the photographer was wrong for not helping the girl.
In the two experiments, there was a group of white boys vandalizing a car and there was a group of black boys vandalizing a car. When the group of white boys were vandalizing, one 911 call was made and more people approached them. In comparison to the group of black boys vandalizing the vehicle, 10 911 calls were made and most people kept a distance from them when confronting them. I believe that the people assumed that the white boys were more approachable compared to the black ones and they felt more secure approaching the white boys because people assumed that the group of black boys had or would use weapons against them. One of the women who conversed with the group of white boys, seemed to almost be joking around with them. This shows how much more comfortable people were with the white boys compared to the black boys, where people were afraid to even come near them. One thing that surprised me was the 911 call on the black family who was sleeping in their car doing nothing threatening to any of the people in the park. However, because they were black, the man made an assumption about their actions. All in all, many people make assumptions about peoples actions and intentions based solely off of their race thus showing proof of racism in our society today.
I believe that an apology is not enough for the reasons these politicians are apologizing; however, I do believe that an apology is one of the factors required to reconcile. Pope Francis's apology was needed to reconcile with the indigenous people, who lost their traditions, religion, and culture due to residential schools. Although, you cannot reverse history, Pope Francis's apology was missing the part where he accepted and blamed the church for the residential schools because the church ultimately ran the schools, as well as their harsh rules towards indigenous children. I also believe that the police chief's was also a requirement for the systematic racism towards black people but, the apology does not mean that the police officers will stop abusing their power against black people. I believe that the government should create laws surrounding police power to make sure, lives that aren't taken without reason and justice is acquired for those who are victims.
In Hasan Minhaj's video essay, he touches upon many situations where the law works specifically for the police (qualified immunity). He explains how police officers are trained significantly more in weapons and physical combat (129 hours) in comparison to problem de-escalation (8 hours) to make sure more lives are safe. The broken police system is that there are specific laws in place to "shield cops from consequences", "gives them special rights when defending themselves", "often trains them to fear the communities, they are trying to protect". Another part of Hasan's video essay explains how cops have to view anyone surrounding them as a potential threat, which means that people living in a "ghetto" community are all seen as threats. I can relate Hasan's video essay to the book "The Hate U Give" because the police "protecting" Garden Heights go around assuming that everyone is some sort of threat, which lead to Khalil's death when he hadn't done anything wrong.
The main idea of Hasan's video essay is to explain how the police can get away with so much because the system is broken and it works in favour of the police; when the police is supposed to be protecting the people, they hurt the people and get away with it or with minimal consequences. I think that art is a way of expressing emotions through creative processes such as visual arts, photography, music, poetry and many other forms of art. When you look at art you should visualize what emotions the artist was trying to portray. For example if a visual artist uses many shades of red with pointy lines and splatters, this piece of art is portraying anger because of the aggressive lines and colours. I think creativity is when you come up with an idea solely based off of your imagination, you take what you know, how you feel or your skills in order to imagine and create an original piece based off of your thought process. Creating creative art takes a process where you must brainstorm all of your ideas for your art and you can then use that idea or combine your ideas to create something more creative. Being creative also means that you created something that no one would have thought of, which means that you took your ideas from your brain to create your piece of art.
